Tell us something dark about yourself.

I am pretty morbid. I love walking through cemeteries, and think a lot about death, the afterlife, etc. And I love the concept of demons.

I’m actually amazed how many people say they like walking through cemeteries.  It’s more than you would think.  Demons can be interesting too!

You are on a deserted island and can only choose one beverage to have besides water.  What would it be?

Oh it would totally be beer!

Good choice!

If you had to choose between a bullwhip, cat o’ nine tails, or a crop, which would you pick?

Cat o’ nine tails. It just sounds badass.

Agreed.  Plus it sounds cool when you slap it against…well, never mind 🙂

What mythical creature would you be and why?

Empusa. She is sort of the great grandmother of vampires.

I actually haven’t heard of her before.  You learn something new everyday!

What first inspired you to write your book?

It was a combination of things. Finally having the courage and determination to do it. That was a big one.

Most definitely.

How long did it take to research/write it?

It took about a year and a half from start to finish.

Sounds about right for a first book!

Give one unique fact about your novel that makes it different from the others in its genre.

I am writing about some pretty well worn supernatural creatures, like vampires, witches, and demons. So I worked really hard to give there back stories and their abilities something unique and different. I also went pretty deep into my research and searched the lore of the supernatural creatures from various sources, not just our own pop culture. For example, Nina, the main character, is descended from the Empusa, which makes her a pretty powerful vampire.

That’s an interesting angle to go with.  It definitely makes me more curious to read your book 🙂

What other books do you plan to publish in the future?

Right now, I am working on the second book in the Hell’s Belle series. And I am at the outline phase of a paranormal YA book that I am pretty excited about writing. Finally, I have the germ of an idea for a horror novel that I working through in a writing class.

Sounds great!

Thanks to Karen for being here today and for participating in this interview.  I enjoyed her answers to my questions!  For everyone else, please check out all the information on her and her book below.  Feel free to ask your own questions if you have any.

Karen Greco Author PhotoAUTHOR BIO:

An award-winning playwright, Karen Greco has spent close to twenty years in New York City, working in publicity and marketing for the entertainment industry.

A life-long obsession with exorcists and Dracula drew her to urban fantasy, where she can decapitate characters with impunity. HELL’S BELLE is her first novel.

Hell's Belle coverBLURB:

Half-vampire, half-human, Nina Martinez spent most of her life underground as part of an elite secret team of government agents who quietly take down rogue monsters — the human world none the wiser.

She moves back to her hometown of Providence, RI to keep an eye on the recent uptick in supernatural activity, and to help run the bar she co-owns with her aunt. Her attempt at a “regular” life, not to mention a budding relationship with smoking hot FBI agent Max, is cut short because of a string of ritual murders targeting the city’s community of witches.

But Nina’s investigation unearths deadly secrets from her long buried parents. Now the target of supernatural assassins, could Nina be the most dangerous vampire hybrid to ever exist? No wonder she can’t get a date.

An urban fantasy set in a decaying Providence, Rhode Island, HELL’S BELLE is a fast-paced, adrenaline-fueled roller-coaster ride through a city on the cusp of becoming an urban wasteland. An energetic, expansive, and cinematic, HELL’S BELLE was called “captivating” by Kirkus Reviews.

Book Chick City gave it 5-stars, calling it “one of the best urban fantasies I have read this year!”
